Synopsis:

Understandably, the NETS*T Assessment and Evaluation standards area follows the previous area in which lessons were implemented. This area is comprised of topics of a broader sense than the traditonal meaning of assessment.

Technology does enable the teacher to review student success with a variety of means. Digital communication now complements the usual paper and pen and so new rubrics of assessment must be devised. Student submissions may be delivered electronically enabling the teacher to code and reference data. Grading can be individualized with greater ease for students with special needs. These assessments may also include how effective the students used technology resources and tools in their work. With a greater array of learning evaluation techniques comes an increase in the meaningfulness of lesson objectives.

Additionally, the data from grades can be used to provide direction for the teacher. Online gradebooks and such provide many options for teachers to chart progress and determine trends. If needed supplemental material, such as quizzes and study guides, can be distributed via the Internet or on local networks. Teachers can share their findings online in with others around the world in Blogs or on various professional sites.
